On the occasion of India’s 72nd Republic Day on January 26, 2021, a blanket donation drive was organised by the department of English of The Bhawanipur Education Society College. The UG and PG students of the department along with the faculty donated 40 blankets to Jyoti Chakra Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that primarily works for underprivileged children in Betberia, a small village near Canning, South 24 Parganas.
The blankets were handed over to Mr. Alokesh Sengupta, director of Jyoti Roy Foundation by four student volunteers- Sulagna Chakraborty (PG Semester III), Sneha Roy (PG Semester I), Shivalika Singh (UG Semester V) and Trisha Khatuya (UG Semester V) who were accompanied by their teacher, Soumyosree Banerjee, on January 23,2021 and were then distributed among the children of the village on January 26.
The department is honoured that it could extend a hand of support to those in need. The active participation of our students amid the pandemic encourages us to pledge more such initiatives to reach out to the less privileged sections of our society.
Special lectures are part and parcel of all academic activity in college. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to hear and interact with resource persons from other institutions.
