The session was introduced by Dr. Dona Ganguly, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science followed by the Welcome Address by Prof. Amala Dhandhania, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Political Science. The workshop aimed to equip the participants with the required skills to get more accurate Google results in order to best utilise the search engine. The resource person showed us how to narrow our search by specifying the file type, mentioning specific websites and using various syntaxes like similar (~) or double quotes (“ ”). Participants were also introduced to the idea of searching through an existing image using the Google Lens feature. As the participants included primarily young students who are new to academia, the basics of Google Scholar as taught during this session helped greatly in understanding the nuances of referencing and bibliography. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Lopamudra Majumdar of the Political Science Department.
The workshop was very interactive as well as informative with live demonstrations of the Google operations being shown. This session was much needed at a time when the online mode of operating has become the new normal.
