“Ignoring technological change in a financial system, based on technology is like a mouse starving to death because someone moved their cheese.” The BBA Department of The Bhawanipur Education Society College presented a webinar on “Spectrum on Digital Finance” on the 20th of September 2020. The Department of BBA believes that it is their earnest duty to keep the budding managers aware of the changes occurring in the financial sector precipitated pre- during and post the pandemic period.
The first revered speaker for the event was Mr.Vivek Jalan a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and a certified expert in Indirect Taxes in India with an experience of more than ten years in the respected field. He is Designated Partner of Tax Connect Advisory Services LLP and also an All India Rank holder in the CA final examination conducted by the ICAI. He has work experience as a Financial Manager in ITC Ltd. and Chief Compliance Officer with the IntraSoft Technologies Ltd. (owner of www.123greeetings.com) he serves industries in Bengal, advising them on affects /benefits of government policies as he an esteemed member of The Indirect Tax Committee of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Being a prominent member of the Consultative Committee of the Commissioner of Commerce of Taxes in West Bengal, helped one gain better cognition of the impact of digitalization and introduction of E-invoice of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) and E-payments of income tax. Comprehensive compilation of information and accessibility of the records help the public get better benefits and understanding of the system.
The second venerated speaker for the event was Professor Sankarshan Basu. He completed his bachelor’s Honours Degree in Statistics from Presidency College, Calcutta, India, and his master’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT, Kanpur). He further went to acquire his PhD in Statics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. Having profuse knowledge in the financial sector, broaden the horizon of the students explaining how even the lower middle-class public have opted to go cashless and prefer digital platform like “Paytm, UPI, BhumiPay” the list is never ending. In this pandemic era of physical distancing and the attractive offers such as cashback, discount benefits, have led to the public from the upper middle-class to the “pan wala” to exercise their choice to go digital.
The webinar was commenced by the moderator Dr. Suman Kumar Mukerjee, he believes that Digital India would have a profound impact on the life of the individual as a whole and will contribute to the progress of the society. He also
preaches that it is a “Work in Progress” initiative and while the government is trying to interconnect the rural by the urban and provide a direct mode of transaction while eliminating the middlemen, the platform is yet to be established and implemented to ensure the parallel growth of both the urban and the rural.
The audience members were rendered speechless with the knowledge provided to them, the newfound information intrigued not only the faculty but also the guest audience which intern lead to a question and answer round with the esteemed speakers.
The event was a huge success owing it to the organisers the teachers of the BBA Department, the Presidents of the BBA- Event Management committee Dikshya Jha and Suyash Somvanshi along with Prof. Kaushik Banerjee Event Management Teacher Coordinator played a pivotal role for the success of the event.
