The Department of Commerce of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized an event for young and quick-thinking minds, named Mathsketeers. The entire Concept Hall witnessed celebrating the beauty and wonder of mathematics with faculties from B. Com (Morning Department) including, Mr.Nitin Chaturvedi, Mr. Dushyant Chaturvedi, Dr.Shreyashi Ghosh, Mr. Chandan Kumar Jha, Ms.Urvi Shukla, Ms.Gargi.
The jury for the event was Ms.Uzma Khan, Ms.Swapna Saha, Ms.Darshana Trivedi, and Ms.Sakshi Shaw.
The competition consisted of a total of 32 teams including a faculty team. The first round was based on predicting the ‘perfect bid’, which seemed like a strategic and risk-taking game where the teams had to pick one member from their team who was confident and knowledgeable at the same time. It was remarkable to hear some teams bid for the highest marks and were appreciated by the audience. Mr.Vivek Patwari from the faculty team gave the fastest answers and amazed his students.
The second & third round was based on a questionnaire, a more collaborative effort that tested the teams’ ability to work together and solve a variety of math-related problems like that of Probability, Percentage, Profit and Loss, finding the missing number in the series, Speed distance and time, basic mental math, all within a limited time frame of six minutes.
Soon after, Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Student Affairs described the event as “igniting the minds” of the students. The students witnessed their faculty, Mr. Dushyant, sharing some useful tricks and tips for competitive exams, which would be beneficial for the students. He even taught the students the art of “‘Digital Sum”. Finally, having Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi ask general knowledge questions proved to be a refreshing break from the mathematics-only rounds as it tested the students’ general knowledge and awareness.
The winners of Mathsketeers were thereafter announced and in First Place was Team 4 comprising Trishita Rai, Alka Singh, Purbita Bardhan, and Arkapravo Guha. The first runners-up were Team 12, comprising Mrittika Karangupta, Dipti Agarwal, Anannya Das, and Rahul Mitra. The second runners-up were Team 11, comprising Hardik Mishra, Shristy Kumari, Bhumika Vyas, and Debkrita Mistry.
Overall, it was an engaging event that thoroughly challenged as well as enriched the participating teams. The participants actively engaged in challenging mathematical problems to compete for the title of the “Maths Genius”. They showcased their problem-solving skills and creativity while working as a team thereby being labeled as enthusiastic Mathsketeers. Each competing student was rewarded with a participation certificate by the college.
