“When the well is dry, we know the worth of water”. – Benjamin Franklin
Water is an essential component of life. We all need water to survive. There is no life on earth without water. World Water Week is the leading conference on global water issues, held every year since 1991. The Week attracts a diverse mix of participants from various professional backgrounds and every corner of the world. World Water Week 2022 took place from 23 August to 1 September. The theme of 2022 world water week was “Seeing the unseen: The value of water”, grouped under three theme headings: The value of water for people and development The financial and economic value of water The value of water for nature and climate
The NSS unit of The Bhawanipur Education Society College came together for its unique project Jal Se Jeevan to celebrate World Water Week 2022, where the NSS volunteers visited neighbouring residences with professional plumbers to offer free services to ensure the stoppage of leaking faucets and taps and educating them on simple ways to save water; emulating NSS’s actual motto, “Not Me, But You”. It was about time to take action to tackle the global water crisis and mending it now be a top priority.
The project had 4 teams with 2 members each, along with a plumber who went to different houses from DumDum to Howrah and Tollygunge to Park Circus to spread the word of water conservation and to alert people of the pre-existing shortage of water and provide free service of fixing leaking taps at their homes in order to conserve this precious life source. The students made the residents aware of some life hacks in our day-to-day life where and how we can save water. The students went to the following areas:
Day1 (26.08.2022) – Beckbagan, Tollygunge, Howrah, Bhawanipur-visited 115 residences
Day2 (27.08.2022) – Girish Park, Burrabazar, Taltala, Park Circus-visited 185 residences

Day5 (01.09.2022) – Netaji Bhawan, Kidderpore, Topisa-visited 133 residences
In 2019 Jal se Jeevan project was launched with a target of 1000 residences and volunteers achieved 40% of the target and projected to achieve remaining 600 households in next set. This time volunteers visited 850 residences in total.
