An International Webinar on ‘COVID 19: A Catalyst for Digital Transformation’ was organized by the Department of Education in collaboration with the IQAC, The Bhawanipur Education Society College on August 27, 2020 from 3 PM (IST). The digital platform for the webinar was Google Meet. The department had invited two speakers, Prof. Prem Heeralal, Professor at the University of South Africa and Dr. Amulya Kumar Acharya, Associate Professor and Head of the Post Graduate Department of Education at Fakir Mohan Unversity, Balasore, Odisha to deliver a lecture on the topic. More than 270 participants from all over India had registered for the webinar. The welcome address was delivered by Yashika Poddar, who then invited the Teacher- In- Charge of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Dr. Suchandra Chakravarty to address the participants. Dr. Chakravarty explained how the topic for the webinar was closely relevant to our present conditions under the COVID-19 lockdown and how the teachers and students have made a transition from the traditional classroom setup to the digital platforms to continue the process of teaching and learning. Next, Dr. Rekha Nariwal, Head of the Department of Education gave a detailed overview on digitalization, its impact and the round reality in rural and urban India. Our first speaker, Prof. Prem Heeralal explained that India was in the window period of its growth and how it could turn the adversities into opportunities for its development. He also pointed out a few catalysts that could help the dynamic digital transformation become a success. Our second speaker, Dr. Amulya Kumar Acharya presented his topic with an informative presentation that covered the paradigm shift of conventional pedagogy to digital pedagogy during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also spoke about the various tools and skills that have proven themselves beneficial in these uncertain times. The speakers also clarified doubts of our participants in an interactive Question and Answer session. Finally, the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Madhuja Biswas who conveyed her heartfelt gratitude towards our speakers, partakers, college administration and governing body who helped make this event a success.
