“Dhadak” literally means a throb, as in the way the heart throbs. Dhadak – the movie, that is slated to release on July 20th, 2018, is also about the throbbing of hearts, of a teen-age first love, torn between society, family and the usual stuff. The real throb, as in a heart-throb, in Dhadak, is however, Janhvi Kapoor – daughter of Bonny Kapoor and the late Sri Devi, scion of the Cousin-Kapoors of Bollywood.
On a whirlwind tour of the City of Joy to promote her formal entry into Bollywood, Janhvi visited the Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) campus on July 13th, along with co-star Ishaan Khattar. The irreplaceable Jimmy Tangree of 91.9 Friends FM had already worked the crowd who had braved to rain to meet and greet Janhvi and her arrival sent them to a frenzy the kind of which was simply beyond the expectation of the actors.
Miraj D Shah, the Vice Chairman of the BESC welcomed and felicitated the stars, wishing them for the success of their forthcoming release.
The title track of the film, which has already become popular with the young crowd was played along with other catchy tunes from the film which had the ecstatic crowd break out in a spontaneous jig, with the actors joining them on stage with their choreographed moves. As a matter of fact, the actors were seen to be visibly surprised by the sheer popularity of Zingaat – a track from the movie, in the campus. They were also overwhelmed by the sheer amount of heartfelt wishes that they got from the students for the success of their first movie together. “I wish I could stay back long enough to join you guys to the screening of Dhadak” said Ishaan Khattar. Janhvi cooed her love for the city of Kolkata and had the audience eating out of her hands when she repeated the same in Bengali.
“I have always known Kolkata to be an amazing place” said Janhvi, “but I had no idea that you people are so spontaneous, so generous with your love and so exotic before coming here. Keep it up Bhawanipur. I sure, look forward to be back here”!
Earlier in the show Jimmy Tangree, who conducted the programme in his inimitable style had called students on stage to do the Zingaat jig. To his surprise, three BESC students: Komal Chowdhary, Sambhawi Gupta and Mayank Patwa had performed so well that he had to give them goodies on behalf of Friends FM.
BESC, which is by far the most hip and happening among the college campuses in the city, has long emerged as the destination to be in, especially for the film crowd in order to connect with the youth of the city. Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Hrithik Roshan– the list of celebrities making a beeline to the campus is but proof of its popularity as a destination of choice for stars.
