1. On 9th March, 2024, the Department of History, in collaboration with NSS unit of the Bhawanipur Education Society College, organised an Extension and Outreach Programme, at Jajabor Foundation in Chandanagar.
2. The programme entitled ‘Manasi’ was organised to celebrate International Women’s Day (held on 8th March every year). It was conducted from 7 am to 5 pm.
3. Sixteen students from the Department of History and NSS were handpicked to raise consciousness among the students of the foundation. Seven faculty members accompanied the students.
4. The students of our college performed a skit on the wrestler Mary Kom, conducted a short quiz, presented short speeches on prolific women personalities of the Independence era and conducted an interactive session with the children.
5. On their part, the students of the Jajabor Foundation welcomed us all with a beautiful dance performance and informed us about the activities undertaken by the Foundation. They work to uplift, educate and skill underprivileged children of Chandanagar so they are empowered to live a dignified life.
6. Students of the Jajabor foundation were gifted water bottles, acrylic paint, paint brushes and refreshments.
7. Alongwith the outreach activity, the Department also conducted an extension programme along the banks of the River Ganges. A heritage walk along the Strand Promenade informed the students about the rich history of Chandanagar. A visit to Sacred Heart Church was also part of the activity.
8. After a quick lunch, the faculty and students departed Chandanagar around 3:30 pm to reach Howrah station by 5 pm.
There are various students at The Bhawanipur Education Society College who have interest in topics of science and an inquisitiveness that runs deep.
