The Department of Political Science of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised a Students’ Seminar on March 27, 2023 where students of the sixth semester of the department presented academic papers. The seminar focused on multifarious topics on various contemporary issues of both national and international importance. Papers were presented analysing the impact of public sector policies like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Aatmanirbhar Bharat Yojana and the recently adopted National Education Policy, 2020 in the development of human capital as an essential prerequisite for all-round progress of the country. An academic presentation also examined the role of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in bringing about universalization of education in West Bengal in the past decade. Students, through the use of PowerPoint presentations, also spoke on the role of international economic institutions like International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the global financial system and the relevance of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in bridging economic inequalities between the Global North and Global South in the post-Cold War Era. The seminar raised concern over the viability of human rights in protecting refugees by taking up the specific case study of the ongoing Rohingya crisis. The presentations were followed by a question-answer session, moderated by the teachers of the department, to deliberate over the diverse facets of the issues taken up. After the paper presentations, Prof. Amala Dhandhania addressed the students appreciating the in-depth study done by the paper presenters and declared the scores given to the individual students for their presentations to further encourage their zeal for inquiry.The students’ seminar was a great success as it gave an impetus to the students to extensively research on crucial socio-political issues and gain insights beyond the curriculum.
