The Department of Commerce (Morning) at The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized the event “No Earth, No Birth: Living in Harmony with Nature” on May 24th, 2023, at the Jubilee Hall. The event started at 10.30 am and aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainable living. It consisted of a Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition focused on topics such as Global Warming, Afforestation and Deforestation, Water Conservation, and Air Pollution.
The event was judged by Prof. Priti Shah, Teacher of Environmental Studies, and Prof. Pritha Chanda, Department of Business Administration. A total of 11 teams participated in the competition. Each team was provided 45 minutes to complete their poster and slogan.
The event commenced with Team 1’s poster art on Afforestation and Deforestation. Their slogan, “Plant Today, Breathe Tomorrow,” conveyed the importance of tree planting. Subsequently, other teams presented their posters and slogans on various topics like, “Saving Water and its significance for future generations” They also used a myriad of slogans like “Minimum Wastage, Optimum Usage.”, “Waste Not, Want Not, Be a Water Hero, Conserve Today.”, “Water Our Birth and Decay?”, “Stop Denying, The Earth is Dying.”, “If Earth Exists, We Exist.”, “Global Warming is burning the earth of today and tomorrow.”, “Do Your Part to Stop Global Warming.”, “What’s the Use of a Fine House if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?”
There were other slogans on Water Consumption, like “Time for Care before it scares.” and Air Pollution, “Pollution Kills Humans and Corruption kills Humanity.” There were several others on
Water Conservation, where participants learned about the importance of individual efforts in conserving water and the cumulative impact of such actions. Similarly, the Global Warming session highlighted techniques like recycling, reducing and reusing, and reducing the use of fossil fuels. It also covered the effects of global warming, including the melting of glaciers, and the impact of globalization and consumerism on the planet.
There was another event, the Quiz Competition, following which the poster presentations were held. Prof. Urvi Shukla organized a quiz competition on topics related to nature, global warming, water conservation, air pollution, and various facts about the Earth. Students who answered questions correctly were rewarded with chocolates. The first position was won by Team 9, the second position was won by Team 4, and the third by Team 3. The prizes and certificates were distributed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah, and Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi, Coordinator of Commerce (Morning). As prizes, students were given a small plant with a pot which marked the significance of planting trees by the youth. The judges were also felicitated with pots of plants awarded as a token of appreciation by Prof. Shah.
