The department of Bengali of The Bhawanipur Education Society College in collaboration with the department of Bengali of Lady Brabourne College, organized a two day international seminar on 17-18 January 2020 at the second floor auditorium of the college to celebrate the 125th Birth Anniversary of the renowned Bengali writer and novelist Bibhuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay. The invited speakers who graced the event by their presence were Professor Vishwadev Choudhury, Department of Bengali, Dhaka University and Dr. Mohammad Azam, Associate Professor, Department of Bengali, Dhaka University. The other dignitaries who were present were Dr. Gopa Dutta, Former Vice Chancellor, Gour Banga University, Dr. Prasun Ghosh, Professor, Department of Bengali Language and Literature, University of Calcutta, Abdul Kafi, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Jadavpur University, Anindo Sengupta, Associate Professor, Department of Film Studies, Jadavpur University, Shikha Basu, Department of Bengali, Charuchandra College and finally Professor Tathagata Bandyopadhyay, the grandson and family successor of Bibhuti Bhushan. The respected speakers engaged in thought provoking discussions and contemplations on the various aspects of Bibhuti Bhushan’s literary works, his ideas of colonialism and modernity, his philosophy of life and intense love for nature, the translation of his works as well as the impact of his daily diary (dinlipi) on the film making. Besides, around 35 teachers and research scholars of various colleges and universities also presented their research papers during the course of the seminar where they tried to explore and analyse the multifarious shades of Bibhuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay’ s unparralled literary works and ideas. These articles are soon going to be published in a peer reviwed journal.
