“Orientation” literally refers to a person’s basic attitude, beliefs, or feelings in relation to a particular subject or issue. The act of moulding such attitudes or beliefs, too, is widely referred to as Orientation and it is this moulding, that the Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) seeks to impact, when it conducts a series of Orientation programmes each year as the new crew of freshers come in to be subjected to a lifestyle called The Bhawanipur. This year, even amongst the pandemic, the Bhawanipur made sure that there will be no exceptions and conducted the Orientation 2020 by streaming live on the YouTube and Facebook channels of the College on November 5,2020. The Orientation programme was held at two different time. At 11am for the incoming batch of 2020 of B. Com and at 5pm for the incoming batch of 2020 of BA, B.Sc and BBA students.
At the respective time, the students were personally welcomed via the live stream by Prof.Dilip Shah, Dean of Student Affairs. He firstly instructed the students that the programme will be interactive and the students can freely comment down their queries in the chat box and then laid down the structure of the programme. He spoke how the programme was divided into 4 sections: 1) Career Connect courses, 2) Collective Introduction, 3) Counselling and lastly 4) Introduction to the world of various sports and related activities.
The first section of Career Connect opened, as videos of different course instructors began briefing students about their respective courses and how can these courses help in their professional life. There are 14 courses under Career Connect and 3 were added on this year: Data Analytics, ERP SAP and Branding & Marketing.
The first course was ACCA which was introduced by CA Priti Modi, one of the faculties of ACCA. It was then followed by Tapas Saha introducing the CFP- Certified Financial Planner program. The next course was Corporate Communication which was introduced by course instructor Suvobrata Ganguly followed by Cyber Security Course being introduced by the respective course instructor Vishal Dave wherein he briefly explained the growing need of Cyber Security especially in this online format currently being adopted globally. The next was Chandrayee Bagchi, course instructor – Digital Marketing who briefly explained about the course. She was followed by Chetan Panchamia who explained about the course of Dynamics of Capital Markets. Mr.Aswini Kumar Bajaj and Vishal Dave came next who introduced the E-Learning course. After E-learning came introduction of G-Suite course by Prof.Vivek Patwari. Next was Pankaj Gupta who introduced about the Tally ERP9 course, followed by Niraj Harodia who introduced Working with GST course which “gives the practical experience of GST.” Next was Prof.Minakshi Chaturvedi who concisely introduced the Commerce+ course which is a diploma course of 240 hours over a duration of 6 months wherein students get practical hands-on lifetime experience, empowering them to make the transition from the academic campus to the commercial shop floor as seamlessly as possible. Abiding by its motto of “Leaning for Leadership & Liberal values”
Before moving on to the next segment of collectives, there was a Q&A round wherein Prof. Vivek Patwari put forth the questions that were received in the chat box to Prof.Dilip Shah which he briefly answered and guided the freshers.
Prof.Dilip Shah then introduced the freshers to the various facilities that are available on campus. He talked about the spirit that is BESC – where achievements are only milestones that are to be achieved and surpassed. He talked at length about the unique philosophy of the institution that believes in freeing the young minds from the shackles that academic education in its simplest form forces them into. He also talked about how the college successfully imparts training in all the relevant subjects by making the minds receptive to the information being imparted, even as the students partake of activities they enjoy.
The second section was the introduction of Collective by the respective college Student representatives. The following 18 collectives were introduced: AON, Art-in-ME, BEST, Bull’s Eye, Crescendo, EcoFor BE-ites, Enact, Expressions, Fashionista, Flames, NCC, NSS, Phenomenon, Quizzard, SETU, Utsav, Vox Populi. Each and every representative briefly spoke about their respective collectives. They spoke about past events, and the upcoming events and what should the students expect from the collective and what the collective is actually about. Followed by the introduction of collectives by their representatives, Prof. Dilip Shah introduced another collective which was the students share skill collective with the purpose to provide a platform for first years to learn various skills from students of second and third year who are skilled in their respective fields. Next the link for registration of joining collectives was made live. Following this Prof. Dilip Shah invited Prof.Minakshi Chaturvedi on stage who spoke about the Placement Cell and its activities & achievements. The next segment that took over was the introduction of Umeed Counselling Services by Mrs.Saloni Priya available at the campus free for all and totally confidential. Following this was another Q&A. Once the queries were resolved, Prof. Dilip Shah briefly spoke about the sports activities.
The programme was 2 hours long and overall, it was an interactive session conducted live where all the first years were introduced to the Limitless Possibilities at The Bhawanipur College – “To Explore, Engage and Excel in areas of your passion and career advancement”
