The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at The Bhawanipur Education Society College hosted the state colloquium of the Indian Communication Congress on December 7, 2023. The central theme of the colloquium was ‘The Necessity for the Communication & Media Education Council of India.’ Distinguished figures present at the event were Prof. B.K. Ravi (Vice-Chancellor, Koppal University), Prof. Partha Chattopadhyay (Renowned litterateur, author, and media academician), Prof. Biplab Loha Chowdhury (Professor, Visva-Bharati), Prof. Buroshiva Dasgupta (Dean, Sister Nivedita University), and Prof. Atish Parashar (Professor, Central University of South Bihar).
During the colloquium, Prof. Loha Chowdhury emphasized the significance of media education and highlighted the challenges posed by technology. Prof. Ravi too indicated the need to enhance media education for the production of highly skilled media professionals. Prof. Chattopaadhyaay stressed the importance of standardizing media education and integrating AI into upcoming media courses. Prof. Dasgupta drew attention to the necessity for a stronger interface between the industry and academia. Prof. Parashar pointed out that the scope of media is no longer confined to journalists and editors, advocating for the expansion of media education in India.
The interactive session involving the audience, consisting of media students, academicians, and professionals, provided additional insights into the matter. The colloquium highlighted the urgent requirement for establishing a media regulatory body in India to address the challenges posed by contemporary Indian media. It also outlined potential roadmaps and challenges in the process.
