The Bull’s Eye Collective of the Bhawanipur Education Society College had organised a five day workshop on Capital Market titled ‘ The Secrets of Capital Market ‘ from 7th September to 11th September. About 200 students participated in the workshop which included about 100 students from Commerce Plus diploma course.
Day 1
The topic for first day was ‘Indian markets in the context of recent global events’. The session was addressed by eminent Guest faculty Mr. Kishor Shah, MD of SMIFS Capital Markets Limited. Mr. Shah has rich experience of more than two decades in investment banking , M&A and Stock Advisory.
Mr. Shah explained in a very simple terms the current market scenario , geo political developments and global economy status. He explained the impact of Yuan devaluation, QE easing by US Fed and its likely impact on Indian economy and investment sentiments in general.
He opined that though markets are in reaction mode , Indian macro numbers on GDP , CAD , inflation are much better than a year before. India will be the fastest growing economy in the world with expected GDP growth of 7% plus which will attract lot of investment. He also listed major pro economy policy measures taken by new Government in last one year. He suggested to invest with a time horizon of two years for good gains.
He also took questions from students and cleared their doubts. The session came to an end with felicitation and presentation of college momento to Mr. Shah by Dean of the college, Mr. Dilip Shah.
DAY 2
The topic for 2nd day was ‘Fundamental Analysis of Stocks’. Mr. Anirban Dutta, Director and Head of Research at Jet Age Securities Ltd. was the guest faculty. A first class Economics graduate from Presidency College and a gold medalist MBA from IISWBM, Mr. Dutta is a firm believer of fundamental analysis.
He highlighted various aspects of market dynamics as follows :
1. Global Liquidity -most important driver of stock price.
2. Relationship between Interest , Inflation and growth.
3. Geo-Political developments.
Mr. Dutta explained the relationship between above factors. He then explained Top Down and Bottom’s Up approach to identify stocks for medium term investment.
A very lively and informative presentation was followed by Q&A session and warm felicitation of Mr. Anirban by Prof. Vijay Kothari.
Day 3
Mr. K Narnolia , MD , Narnolia Securities spoke on ‘Invest Strategies’ on day 3 of workshop.
Mr. Narnolia explained return from different asset class like debt , gold , real estate and made a strong case for equity investment as the best tool for wealth creation.
Day 4
Technical Analysis was introduced to the students on Day 4 by Mr. Rahul Mohindar , Director – ViraTech and a real time trader.
In this interesting session , he introduced students to the power of Technical Analysis. He explained basic but very important indicators like Moving Average , RSI and MACD. He showed how one can trade in the market with the help of above indicator. The session was concluded after interesting Q & A session.
Day 5
The topic was ‘Machine Learning: The Future of Forecasting’. The session was addressed by Mr. Shubham Agarwal is Head of Quantitative Research at Motilal Oswal.
Shubham Agarwal is a Chartered Market Technician (MTA,USA), CFA (USA) and is certified in Quantitative Finance (CQF, London). His team consists of Technical Analysts, Derivative Analysts, Macro-economic Analysts, Mathematicians and Programmers.
Mr. Agarwal gave an idea about how in near future trades will be initiated by software programs (machines) based on the complex set of data. There will be a paradigm shift in trading techniques.
The students were asked to study simple financial and technical position on two companies from the same sector and make presentations in a team of 6 to 8. Certificates were allotted to all those with regular attendance and who made comparative analysis of stocks.
