No one can deny that the development of skills is more significant than classroom instruction. It needs passion, devotion, and practice while maintaining a good physical and mental health. The art of practising yoga helps to bring renewed vitality to an individual’s mind, body, and soul. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Education organised a Yoga Workshop on January 12, 2023, in the Concept Hall. We had with us Mrs. Sarika Saraiya, a Yoga Instructor and Therapist certified by the World Yoga Society, Dhakuria and Sivananda Ashram, Kerala. She was assisted by Mrs. Nikita Rana, who demonstrated all the yoga postures in the workshop.
Our students were asked to do the basic asanas. Mrs. Saraiya made sure that the asanas started from the “toe to head” and covered all the major postures for healthy living. She illustrated how yoga helps to increase flexibility, muscle strength, and body tone. It also improves respiration, enhances energy, and vitality. After establishing a regular yoga schedule, one would experience an improvement in mental and physical energy, an increase in concentration level, which would ultimately help in curbing negative emotions. However, the ultimate aim of yoga is to assist people in transcending the self and achieving enlightenment.
Mrs. Sarika Saraiya was felicitated with a token of appreciation by our Teacher-in-Charge, Dr. Subhabrata Ganguly, and Vice Principal (Arts), Prof. Debjani Ganguly. Dr. Rekha Nariwal, Associate Professor, Department of Education, concluded the event with a Vote of Thanks, expressing her gratitude and acknowledgment to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
A healthy and nutritious lunch was served to all students at the end of the event. Students enjoyed this programme, and they are looking forward to more such sessions.
