On 22nd November, we had a workshop on “Self-Defence” for girls from 01:00 PM – 03:00 PM. Self Defence is very important for girls in this world where danger lurks around every corner of her surroundings. This session was conducted by a well known Karate trainer Mr. Shantanu Chandra, assisted by two students of college who are equally talented.
The workshop started with a warm-up of 15 minutes. The girls were enthusiastic to get the key to self protection. We were taught the tips and tricks on how to react and defend ourselves when our opponent tries to clutch us from the back, shake hands for an extended period of time creating an awkward situation for us, intentionally push in public transport and crowded areas, attack us in public places where seeking help is out of question.
The workshop ended with a sensitive note on the alarming rate at which girls are victimized at not only their workplace, but also at homes by their own relatives.
