Sekhar Das, Geologist, shared his mine of experience – first as a part of the nationalised behemoth Coal India Limited and currently as a consultant with various entities engaged in mining operations.
The Seminar was organised to provide students with a command control view of the mining sector of the Nation – the process of identifying and extracting the natural resources that help turn the wheels of the economy and the different aspects that are associated with such mining activities.
Prof Minakshi Chaturvedi introduced the speaker and explained to the assembled students the importance of mining activities in the economic development of the Nation before inviting the speaker to take the dais.
The different types of mining – open cast, underground et all, were discussed in detail with relevant issues relating to logistics and costs pertaining to each type being explained to the forty odd students who had participated in the proceedings.
The speaker also talked about the direct economic contribution of mining and about the huge employment potential in the sector, urging the students who were present to actively consider joining the sector.
A follow up visit to a mine is also being contemplated which will provide the students with a valuable insight into mining operations and help them understand the working of the sector better.
