On 22nd August The Department of Sociology and The Environmental Development Committee in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organised a Webinar on ” Addressing Issues of Climate Change and Vector Borne Diseases like Dengue”. The speaker invited for this event was the young and dynamic climate activist Mr. Ajay Mittal, Director, India and South Asia (Climate Change Programs) for Earth Day Network. The talk was held on the virtual platform of Google Meet and attended by very enthusiastic participants from the faculty as well as from the student body.
The talk started with the welcome note by faculty member Shreya Bhattacharya followed by an interesting lecture by the speaker. Mr. Mittal simply defined and explained the environmental concerns that have been the focal point of much deliberations since the last few decades. Such issues have become glaringly global and innately conspicuous in the pandemic times. Along with Covid 19 and its myriad consequences, one must not lose sight of the lasting impact of global climate change and certain vector borne diseases especially Dengue that require immediate attention. He presented us with a very informative slideshow displaying images that depicted Global Warming and its consequences, waste management, dengue prevention activities and factors impacting climate change. The talk concluded by outlining the simple measures we humans can take to prevent local as well as global environmental crises.
The presentation was followed by a question answer session conducted by faculty member Dyuti Chatterjee. the vote of thanks that concluded the event was delivered by Dr Pinky Saha Sardar.
