On 28th February 2022, The Department of Commerce of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised Merger & Amalgamation – The Game Changer – an Inter College case study competition.
The colleges invited were Seth Anandram Jaipuria college, THK Jain College, Shri Shikshayatan College, Sister Nivedita University, St. Xavier’s College, JD Birla Institute and Xavier’s University.
The event commenced at 10:45 A.M. with an address by Prof. Dilip Shah – Dean of Student Affairs, BESC. The event was graced by the Chief Guests – Mr. Rishabh C Kothari, President MCCI and Mr. Miraj Shah, Vice Chairman BESC, Shri D Bandopadhyay, Regional Director MCA and Special Invitees – CMA Biswarup Basu (Central Council Member, ICAI) and CS Sandip Kejriwal (Central Council Member, ICSI).
The dignitaries were then invited to the stage for the lamp lighting ceremony, marking the start of the auspicious function.
The Event commenced with the signing of the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between the Bhawanipur College and Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry to promote Excellence in Education with Academia- Industry Collaboration.
Following which the Case Study Competition began. The Jury Members for the day comprised Rupanjana Dey (Director. Rupa Group), CS Rajesh Chura (Council Member, ICSI ( EIRC )) , CS Hansraj Jaria (Practicing Professional, NCLT)
The Convenor of the event, Prof. Mohit Shaw explained the rules of the event. Each team was allotted 8 minutes for presentation on the topic and 1 minute for answering cross questions addressed to the team. The teams had to make a presentation on the companies chosen doing a detailed analysis and research of the merger/acquisition, on background of company and the synergy created.
12 teams showcased their presentation one by one, and the topics selected were Google and Android, Facebook and WhatsApp, Air India and Tata Sons, PNB and OBC, Tata and Cones Steel, Zee Entertainment and Sony LIV, Zomato and Uber Eats, Tata Motors and Jaguar, Flipkart and Walmart, Disney and Pixel, Indus Tower and Bharti Infratel, and Apple and Intel. Some of the participants gave excellent presentations and displayed fine oratory skills.
The winner of the competition was J.D. Birla Institute, the 1st Runner up was Sister Nivedita University, and the 2nd Runner up was T.H.K Jain College.
After the prize distribution, the event came to an end with the memento presented to the dignitaries. It was indeed a successful session with the students eagerly looking forward to more such enlightening events.
