The Bhawanipur Education Society College hosted a thrilling Intra-College Basketball Championship at the College Turf from 2 P.M. onwards on June 6th, 2024. The event saw active participation from students with more than 100 participants in total divided into 10 teams in the boys’ category and 4 teams in the girls’ category. The rules of the championship were such that each team had to have 5 players to play on the court. The time limit for each game was 20 minutes which was divided into 2 quarters of 10 minutes each. Each team had a fixed number of team fouls and personal fouls.
In the boys’ category, 10 teams competed in a knockout format with a total of 4 rounds. The matches were intense as each team strived for victory. The semi-finalists were Team Red Bulls, Team Ball Brothers, Team Shadow Raptors, and Team Warriors. The final match between the Red Bulls and the Warriors ended in a tie with a score of 70-70. A tie-breaker was held, and Team Red Bulls emerged victorious. In the girls’ category, 4 teams competed, and the semi-final matches included BESC Team A vs. Clusters and BESC Team B vs. Hustlers. BESC Team A emerged as the winner in the finals with an outstanding performance in both matches.
During the midday break, the tournament was graced by the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah. The court buzzed with excitement as a special 3-pointer shooting competition was organized where each team nominated a player to represent them in this contest. The contest also saw the participation of Prof. Dilip Shah who managed to successfully score two consecutive baskets demonstrating that age is no barrier to enthusiasm and sportsmanship. His participation highlighted the spirit of inclusiveness and enjoyment that sports brings to our community. The winners of this contest were Sumit Shaw from the boys and Kusum Dhanuka among the girls.
The prize ceremony was graced by, Mr. Umesh Thakker from the management who met each of the finalists of the tournament to congratulate them and present them with medals at the Turf. The Intra-College Basketball Championship was a grand success, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the organizers, the participants and the supporters.
