Striking the right balance between studies, exams, skills and co-curricular activities is often said to be the key to a flourishing individual in life. With the motive of striking the right balance, over 192 participants registered to be the part of an event that stretched for 14 days, and faced each other in six back to back gruelling rounds.
The Bhawanipur Education Society College in partnership with IBS ICFAI Business School and Leveraged Growth as Case Study round and Article Writing round partners respectively and Vardhan Consulting Engineers as Internship Partner organised a 14 day long intra college fest – “ECOGNITE” beginning from 18th August 2021 with Opening Ceremony and ending on 13th September 2021 with the Felicitation Ceremony. Co-ordinated by EcoFor BE-ites collective of the college, the rounds of the fest began from 19th August 2021 and continued for 14 days till 1st September 2021 and was conducted on D2C platform, zoom meetings with Felicitation ceremony held at Jubilee Hall. With 4 non-eliminatory rounds and 2 eliminatory rounds, the fest aimed at testing the abilities of all its participants on grounds of commerce, economics and most importantly, data analysis.
The first two non-eliminatory rounds i.e Aptitude Test and Guesstimates were conducted with the objective of challenging and enhancing the cognitive skills of the participants. The third non-eliminatory round i.e the Case Study round was devised in such a way that it focussed on developing Leadership vision, Strategic Planning, Management Skills, Adaptability and Analytical skills of the participants. The fourth non-eliminatory round i.e the Article Writing round challenged and enhanced the research and writing skills of the participants while the pre-ultimate and ultimate rounds that were eliminatory – Group Discussion and Personal Interview round tested and enhanced the communications skills and personality of the participants.
The first round – Aptitude Test held on 19th August 2021 from 11am to 4pm with round window open for only 90 minutes witnessed a total of 134 participants who competed against each other for ranks 1-128. The top scorer of the round was Anshu Mimani ( B.Sc Economics Hons 2018-21) with a score of perfect 50 while second position of the round was taken by Taniya Ahuja ( B.Sc Economics Hons 2020-23) with a score of 42. The Aptitude Test which consisted of 50 score points was conducted on D2C and had 5 Segments comprising of Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning with 10 questions in each segment.
The 128 ranks who qualified were permitted to move to the next round which was the Guesstimates round which was held on D2C platform on 19th August 2021 6pm – 10pm. The guesstimate question provided to the participants was “ How many t-shirts e-commerce companies sell in India per day? ” The round witnessed a variety of unique estimations and cut-throat competition for ranks 1-20 with 100 submissions before deadline. The top rankers of the round were Rishail Reyaz ( B.Sc Economics Hons 2019-22) and Shreyans Vasa ( B.Com Hons 2019-22) with a score of 49/50 each while the second rank holder of the rank was Bivek Chowdhury ( B.Com Hons 2020-23) with a score of 48/50.
The 100 participants were permitted to appear for the third round which was held in collaboration with IBS ICFAI Business School from 20th August 2021 5pm to 23rd August 2021 3:30pm. The round witnessed a total of 76 participants who competed for the round ranks 1-28 and solved the case study on Pesky Fish. The top scorers of the round were Pratik Kadel ( B.Com Hons 2019-22), Aranyak Chakraborty ( B.Com Hons 2019-22) and Shreya Sarkar ( B.Com Hons 2020-23) with a score of 95/100. The 76 participants were then permitted to appear for the final non-eliminatory round that was the Article Writing round.
The Article writing round conducted in collaboration with Leveraged Growth saw 68 submissions on 5 topics :

The round was judged by Ritwik Bhawsinghka – Business Consultant and Head of Research at Leveraged Growth. The best article of the round was by Mansi Rajgharia who wrote on topic 5- “The Indian entertainment industry post-COVID – is OTT the new normal?”
As many as 66 consisting participants competing for cumulative intermediate ranks of 1-49.
Post the release of intermediate ranks and scores top 36 candidates were selected for the GD round judged by Shahida Hussain. The Group Discussion round was held on 31st August 2021 from 9:45 am – 11am. The candidates were divided into 3 slots of 12 each. All 3 slots witnessed tough competition however only the top 9 survivors of the round were eligible to compete against each other in the ultimate round which was the PI round.
The Personal Interview or the PI round was held on 1st September 2021 from 2pm onwards. The judge of the round was Prakash Nahata, CEO- Anthroplace Consulting. The participants were gruelled based on their CV and cognitive skills and answers. The top 9 participants who went for the PI round were Harsh Sharma, Raiyan Elahi, Rishail Reyaz, Shreyans Vasa, Harsh Lohia, Aishwarya Behera, Bibhas Kumar, Rishav Basak and Lokesh Rathi. The round revealed the top rankers of ECOGNITE 2020-21.
