The students of The Bhawanipur Education Society College celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and his dream of a clean India, volunteered to undertake a cleanliness awareness initiative on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. This event was organized by the Departments of Education and Political Science wherein the students performed a short street play to emphasize upon the importance of cleanliness and anti-littering in the campus and the nearby surroundings.A major focus of the initiative was to promote the use of eco-friendly alternatives to plastics and non-biodegradable materials.The students along with the faculty members also marched down the streets of Lala Lajpat Rai Sarani, Ashutosh Mukherjee Road, Acharya Jagdish Chandra Bose Road and Sarat Bose Road holding placards and roaring slogans to eliminate the use of “single-use plastics”. The event began with the singing of Gandhiji’s favourite songs, followed by an address to the participants of the march by the Teacher-in-Charge Dr. Suchandra Chakravarty. She spoke about the importance of the motto of Reduce and Recycle. This event was organized as a part of series of events which included a seminar on Training of Citizenship in Undergraduate Colleges and a cleaning drive at Mullick Ghat. Earth Day Organization too, collaborated with the college for the cleaning drive and the cleanliness awareness initiative.
